Description:

In-person French lessons for children and teenagers in White Plains are back!

You live near White Plains and you're looking for French classes for your child? Look no further! Our brand new offices are opening this Spring and we will be offering in-person French lessons at 280 Dobbs Ferry Road, Suite 302 from June 1 onward. If you would like your child to grow up bilingual, contact our team to find out more about our teaching philosophy!

Children and teens classes at Alliance Française

Our pedagogy is based on providing a fully immersive learning environment adapted to children and their developmental needs, so at this stage lessons focus on teaching all 4 skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Younger children will learn mainly through songs, games and playful lessons, while teenagers will be given more opportunities to learn through videos and interactive activities organized online or offline. Although grammar and conjugation won't be the primary focus of lessons, teachers will make sure children and teenagers acquire all the necessary basics to be able to speak French accurately, and students who are 8 years old or more will be given the opportunity to take official exams in French if they wish to do so. While an emphasis will be on listening and speaking skills at first, reading and writing skills will become more important as your child progress, and intermediate and advanced level students will be expected to be able to write in French with a higher degree of accuracy.

If your child has never attended classes at AFW, you need to contact us before signing up for a class, so we can assess their level. If your child is a teenager, they must take our placement test. For younger children, an informal interview will be arranged before the first day of class in order for our team to assess your child's level, as well as to gain a better understanding of learning goals which are most important to you.

When are lessons taking place?

Lessons scheduled during our in-person late Spring term will start from June 1, 2022 onward, and will finish no later than June 24, 2022. Our school year is usually organized following 3 terms of 10 lessons each, starting in September, January and March or April, depending on classes. However, this package is for 4 lessons only.

During the Summer, we organize intensive classes for children and teens, as well as Summer camps allowing them to learn French through arts, craft and playful activities.

Children and teenagers are grouped by ages as well as depending on their level. Groups need a minimum of 4 students for the schedule to be confirmed.

As non-native French speakers, my husband and I send our children to the AFW so they can immerse themselves in the French language and culture. We also realize the importance of mastering a second language in today’s world. It’s amazing to see how their proficiency in the language has grown and most importantly, their genuine love and interest in French.

My daughter Stella really enjoyed the online class she had over the last few weeks. Aurélie was a wonderful teacher and Stella had a great time beginning to explore the French language. Thanks!

I believe the online platform works really well, and I am excited to see that online courses will be offered in the summer. In terms of the spring online semester, my daughter Anna has been extremely engaged, the lessons have been impactful, and she has truly been enjoying the interaction. Thank you for all that you do with the class!
